Turkey’s first International Modest Fashion Week has opened in Istanbul bringing designers and models of conservative wear from around the world. During the event, models hit the runway at a historic train station donning a bright palette of breezy garment and kaleidoscopic headscarves.

Founder Deeyah Khan founded “Sister-hood”, a magazine that aims to highlight diversity, and challenge stereotypes by featuring articles from a broad range of voices.

The Dardenne brothers say they are placing their faith in women to further progress, and that it’s possible to read their new film as a rallying cry for greater collective responsibility in Europe. The two brothers are putting extra emphasis on Muslim women, by employing a Muslim character in their new film “The Unknown Girl”.

Forty Anti-Muslim protesters stood outside the Muslim Expo, which takes place annually in Antwerp, Blegium, with placards on, some of whom handed out pork sausages. Zakia Belkhiri, a young Muslim woman, decided the best way to counter-protest was to exhibit a cornerstone of western culture.

A North Carolina man admitted last Friday that he ripped off a Muslim woman’s head scarf during a flight to New Mexico last December after saying, “Take it off! This is America!”

Lisa Vogl is an American designer and fashion photographer who converted to Islam in 2011 and started her own modest clothing and hijab brand in 2013. The America’s first Muslim clothing store says Islamic fashion isn’t just for Muslims.

Muhterem Aras has been elected as the first Muslim woman to become the speaker of a state parliament in Germany. Aras, 50, is a member of the Green Party and took the post in Baden-Württemberg state.
