In August 2007, I started Muslimah Media Watch as a place to complain about the way Muslim women appeared in the media. In the four years since, MMW has expanded into a worldwide network of smart, engaging Muslimah writers. We’ve transformed the blogosphere and the classroom with our critical look at media and Muslim women, and I’m incredibly proud at the work that my MMW sisters and I have done.
But after four years, I realize that I no longer have anything to give to that which I gave birth to four years ago. MMW is in need of revitalization and rebirth, but cannot move forward with me at the helm. And, in the same vein, I cannot move on to other projects if MMW is my main focus.
Thus, I am announcing that I am stepping down at Editor-in-Chief. It is with much sadness, but also with anticipation for what is to come for both MMW and myself: Krista Riley, our Associate Editor, will take on my role as Boss Lady here.
MMW will be on a brief hiatus until November 1, 2011. There are a lot of exciting changes in the works, and when MMW returns, I hope our loyal friends and readers will be right here with us. Your encouragement and support has kept both MMW and myself going these last four years.
I wish all our writers, readers, friends, and supporters a very warm goodbye. Thank you for your hard work, for everything you have taught me, and for standing by MMW.
All my love,
Fatemeh
